European ministers will discuss future of common fisheries policy on Monday 24 March

At a working lunch on Monday 24 March in Brussels, the European Fisheries Ministers will hold an informal debate on the future of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).

The discussion will take place, as proposed by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, in the context of the ongoing evaluation of the current CFP regulation, the forthcoming publication by the European Commission of the ‘European Oceans Pact’ and the future ‘Vision for Fisheries and Aquaculture 2040’.

The Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU will also focus on the programme to simplify CFP rules and on the objective of reducing the administrative burden imposed on fishing and aquaculture businesses.

Modernisation of the fleet, decarbonisation and safety in the fisheries sector will be taken into account in the evaluation of the CFP, promised the European Commissioner for Fisheries, Costas Kadis, on 19 February.

The Commission is currently conducting a public consultation (until 21 April 2025 – https://aeur.eu/f/g07 ) with a view to revising, if necessary, Regulation 1380/2013 on the CFP. The Commission’s proposals are expected in mid-2026. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
