25/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – Trade unionists and environmentalists demonstrated outside the European Commission on Tuesday 25 February, calling on it to “put the brakes on” its so-called ‘omnibus’ simplification package, which “is leading Europe towards deregulation that will weaken workers’ rights and environmental protection”, according to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). “The ‘omnibus’ project goes far beyond what can reasonably be called ‘simplification’: it is pure and simple deregulation. There is no attempt to strike a balance between the needs of users of sustainable development information and those of companies,” said ETUC Deputy General Secretary Isabelle Schömann. The Commission “has a duty to legislate in the public interest, but it is currently acting in breach of its own better regulation rules by rewriting legislation solely in the interests of business”.
