25/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – At the United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East on Tuesday 25 February, Sigrid Kaag, Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, stressed the urgent need for a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying that this ceasefire period was potentially the “last chance” to implement the two-State solution. While the EU has consistently considered this solution to be the only viable one - a position reaffirmed at the EU/Israel Association Council on Monday 24 February (see EUROPE 13586/4) - Sigrid Kaag expressed concern about the threats to its practical implementation. Deploring “calls for annexation” as well as “military operations and increasing violence” resulting in “loss, destruction and displacement” in the West Bank, she called on Israelis and Palestinians to conclude their negotiations in order to “avoid at all costs the resumption of hostilities” in Gaza.
