19/02/25 (Agence Europe) – The effectiveness of the Community regulation on ship recycling has been significantly undermined by the fact that shipowners change flag before recycling, according to the results of an evaluation of the regulation published by the European Commission on Wednesday 19 February. The Commission also noted that additional efforts are needed on the quality of inventories of hazardous materials. The Commission will continue to collaborate with Member States, non-EU countries and stakeholders to better enforce the regulation. It will continue to work with the Member States, third countries and stakeholders to ensure that the regulation is enforced more effectively, it said in a press release.
