19/02/25 (Agence Europe) – In 2022, the EU's greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint from goods and services consumed, including those imported, amounted to 4.8 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent, exceeding production-related emissions, which stood at 3.6 billion tonnes, Eurostat reported on Wednesday 19 February. This suggests that a large proportion of the EU's carbon footprint is due to the consumption of products manufactured outside the EU. Per capita, the carbon footprint of goods and services consumed in the EU was 10.7 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. The lowest per capita footprints were recorded in Sweden (7.9 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per capita), Portugal and Romania (8.0 tonnes each). The highest footprints were recorded in Cyprus (16.6 tonnes), Luxembourg (15.5 tonnes) and Ireland (14.2 tonnes). To see the Eurostat publication: https://aeur.eu/f/fkl (PLD)
