30/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – According to information form the European Parliament, a second trilogue on the Waste Directive will take place on 18 February. The aim of the revision of the framework directive on food and textile waste is to speed up the fight against food waste in the EU and to involve textile manufacturers in the fight against the waste of used clothing and footwear. To achieve this, the binding targets for waste reduction in the food sector are to be raised, and the responsibility schemes for textile producers are to be extended. For example, the EU Council wants to reduce waste by 10% by 2030 in processing and manufacturing, and by 30% (per capita) in the retail trade, restaurants, catering services and households. Parliament is more ambitious, at 20% and 40% respectively. (FS)
