The European Commission launched, on Wednesday 8 January and through the 1 April, a public consultation on the evaluation of the mandate, performance and organisational framework of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
Established in 2002, EFSA provides scientific advice and scientific and technical support for EU policy and legislation in all areas that have a direct or indirect impact on food and feed safety. It also provides independent information in all these areas and ensures risk communication.
The Commission is required, by 28 March 2026 at the latest, to evaluate EFSA’s performance in achieving its objectives. The evaluation will focus on its performance in achieving its objectives, mandate, missions, procedures and location, and on the possible need to modify its mandate. The conclusions of the evaluation will be used to decide whether it is necessary to improve the way EFSA operates and is organised.
