EU and Japan explore opportunities for future cyber security cooperation

The European Union and Japan held their sixth cyber security dialogue in Tokyo on Monday 11 November, shortly after the announcement of the EU-Japan Security and Defence Partnership at the strategic dialogue between the two parties on1 November (see EUROPE 13517/11).

The dialogue on cyber security - co-chaired by Maciej Stadejek, Deputy Director General at the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Yukio Saita, Ambassador for Cyber Policy and Deputy Director General of the Foreign Policy Bureau at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs - aimed to exchange views on the threat landscape and the response to cyber-malicious activities.

The two parties took stock of the latest political and legislative developments in the field of cyber security and explored opportunities for future cooperation on product security and resilience and critical infrastructure protection.

They also exchanged views on approaches and actions to strengthen cybersecurity capacities.

The dialogue will be followed, from 12 to 15 November, by the EU-Japan-US cybersecurity week on industrial control systems (ICS) for the Indo-Pacific 2024 region. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
