06/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 5 November, the European Commission sent out a non-paper updating its proposal on fishing opportunities for 2025 for certain fish stocks in the Atlantic, Channel and North Sea (see EUROPE 13516/10). For cod in the Kattegat, the Commission is proposing to set a total allowable catch (TAC) exclusively for by-catches of this stock (only 72 tonnes, -17% compared with the 2024 TAC), for fisheries targeting Norway lobster (these two species are often found in the same net). The update also covers Norway lobster TACs in several areas, including the Bay of Biscay (3,502 tonnes) and the Skagerrak-Kattegat (7,732 tonnes), as well as TACs for undulate ray.
