To mark World Ozone Day on Monday 16 September, which commemorates the 1985 Montreal Protocol aimed at phasing out ozone-depleting substances (ODS), the European Environment Agency (EEA) has published data to measure the European Union’s progress in this area.
Consumption of the substances covered by the Protocol has fallen by 99% in the EU and worldwide since 1986. The remaining 1% is attributed to certain industrial and scientific processes that offer no alternatives.
