Failure of Renew Europe group’s attempt to get European Parliament’s pro-European groups to adopt a declaration on gender equality

11/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – The Renew Europe group’s initiative to get a declaration on gender equality adopted within the future College of European Commissioners did not receive the expected support from the Conference of Presidents (CoP) of the European Parliament’s political groups on Wednesday 11 September (see EUROPE 13476/24). The same day, in a specific statement, the centre-right group reiterated that it would “vigorously” support the principle of gender equality within the ‘von der Leyen II’ Commission (see other news). It will also ask the candidate European Commissioners to defend the fundamental values of the EU and the convention on combating violence against women. (MB)
