09/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – In the second quarter, seasonally-adjusted GDP rose by 0.2% in both the euro area and the European Union, compared to the previous quarter, according to the flash estimate published by the EU’s statistical office (Eurostat) on Friday 6 September. Poland (+1.5%) recorded the highest wealth creation, followed by Greece (+1.1%) and the Netherlands (+1.0%). The biggest falls were seen in Ireland (-1.0%), Latvia (-0.9%) and Austria (-0.4%). GDP fell in Germany (-0.1%), while increasing slightly in France and Italy (+0.2%), and rising sharply in Spain (+0.8%). Between the end of March and the end of June, the number of people in employment rose by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the EU in the second quarter, after +0.3% in both areas in the first quarter of 2024.
