The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, travelled to Rafah on the Egyptian side on Monday 9 September to meet representatives of UN agencies and the Emergency Relief Committee (ERC) involved in humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip.
Mr Borrell expressed his deep concern at the continuing obstruction of the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza, denouncing a “massive violation of human rights”.
“The most urgent thing is to make these ambulances enter or receive the wounded people. And that’s why the EU is ready to offer their logistic capacities and to have the European staff deployed on the other side of this border”, said Mr Borrell.
He also criticised the Israeli authorities’ refusal to let certain essential products through, in particular energy bars, which are considered “luxury goods”.
The High Representative reaffirmed the urgency of a political solution and the EU27’s commitment to a ceasefire and the release of all remaining hostages. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
