28/08/2024 (Agence Europe) – Building on their long-standing partnership, NATO and Iraq began a process of political dialogue on Tuesday 27 August. Since 2018, in response to a request from the Iraqi authorities, the NATO mission in Iraq has been advising security institutions to help them strengthen the country's security, fight terrorism and prevent the return of Daech. “Today we further build on this successful practical cooperation by launching a political dialogue. Both NATO and Iraq have an interest in a stable and secure Middle East, and so it is only natural that we discuss how we can work on this together”, explained the Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina, in a press release.
