T&E calls on cruise ship companies to invest in green technologies

26/08/2024 (Agence Europe)Today’s largest cruise ships are twice as big as they were in 2000, according to a report by the NGO network Transport & Environment (T&E) published on Thursday 8 August. At this rate, these ships could reach 345,000 gross tonnes by 2050, almost eight times more than the Titanic. “This is a problem for the environment”, according to T&E, which is calling on companies to invest in green technologies in order to reduce their environmental impact. CO2 emissions from cruise ships rose by almost 20% between 2019 and 2022. These ships are currently exempt from fuel duties and most corporate and consumer taxes. A tax of €50 on a cruise ticket would raise €410 million in Europe. Read the report: https://aeur.eu/f/d7x (AD)
