Rear Admiral Massimo Bonu appointed EU Force Commander for Operation EUNAVFOR Aspides

Italian Rear Admiral Massimo Bonu has been appointed EU Force Commander for the European Union maritime security operation to preserve freedom of navigation in relation to the Red Sea crisis (EUNAVFOR Aspides) from 8 August 2024, according to a legal act published in the Official Journal of the EU on Monday 29 July. He will replace Dutch Captain George Pastoor, in post since 15 June 2024 (see EUROPE B13428A27). (CG)
