Tax differentials between single taxpayers without children and families with children are particularly high in European countries, according to a study by the business-oriented think-tank Tax Foundation Europe, published on Friday 31 May.
In 2023, the average tax burden from income tax and payroll tax for families in OECD countries was 25.7%, 9.1% lower than for single people without children. Countries where the gap is higher give families more tax relief.
