Instability in Sahel represents a “significant setback” for EU’s foreign and security policy, says Josep Borrell

On Thursday 23 May, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, declared that the EU remained ready to accompany the people of the Sahel region towards peace, despite the difficult context. The European Union’s training mission with the Malian Armed Forces (‘EUTM Mali’), which began in February 2013 (see EUROPE B10748A22), came to an end on Saturday 18 May.
