European Parliament validates provisional agreement on regulation to reduce methane emissions from energy industry

10/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – At their plenary session in Brussels on Wednesday 10 April (530 votes in favour, 63 against and 28 abstentions), MEPs approved the agreement reached with the Council of the EU(see EUROPE B13326A24) on the regulation to reduce methane emissions from the oil, fossil gas and coal sectors, as well as from biomethane, once the latter is injected into the gas network. “Until now, methane has been a blind spot in our climate policies.
