08/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – Solar Industry Regions Europe (SIRE), the network of European regions committed to supporting the photovoltaic industry, has published a position paper setting out its recommendations for supporting European production of photovoltaic (PV) panels. Pointing out that the EU is over 95% dependent on China for its PV imports, the network is calling for short- and long-term measures to support the sector. It is urging the EU, for example, to buy back the surplus of unsold solar modules stockpiled in Europe, or to mobilise additional European funds. Unlike many of the players who have spoken out in recent months, SIRE refers to the anti-dumping measures against Chinese photovoltaic panels as a measure that should be taken into account to protect the European industry.
