08/04/24 (Agence Europe) – The vote by the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties on the revised mechanism for suspending short-stay visa liberalisation regimes has been postponed until after the European elections, the office of the Slovenian rapporteur, Matjaž Nemec (S&D), told Agence Europe on Friday 5 April (see EUROPE 13382/9). Discussions between the political groups proved more difficult than expected and, given the very tight timetable, the rapporteur did not see a clear path to a good compromise without the risk of compromising the quality of the text, according to one source. The Slovenian MEP therefore decided “that it would be better to postpone the vote and deal with this issue under the new mandate“, added this source. (SP)
