European Commission deplores Member States’ lack of progress on road safety

Around 20,400 people were killed in road accidents in the EU in 2023 - a slight fall of 1% compared to 2022, the European Commission revealed on Friday 8 March.

Despite some progress since 2019, few Member States are on track to meet the EU and UN target of halving the number of road deaths by 2030.

Since 2019, the number of road deaths has fallen only slightly in Spain, France and Italy, while it has risen in Ireland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Sweden. On the other hand,...
