08/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – To mark International Women’s Day, on Friday 8 March, the Women’s Committee of the European Disability Forum (EDF) launched an appeal to European leaders to guarantee and promote the rights of women and girls with disabilities. Pointing out that they represent almost 26% of women in the EU and 60% of the 100 million disabled people in Europe, the EDF is calling for concrete action to ensure their full electoral participation, their inclusion in decision-making, their increased visibility, the reduction of poverty, the fight against violence and financial support for organisations representing them. This advocacy, aligned with EDF’s third manifesto (see EUROPE 13362/21), aims to break down systemic barriers and promote the empowerment and leadership of women and girls with disabilities across Europe.
