19/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – Fabrice Leggeri, former director of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), announced on Saturday 17 February in a video on X (formerly Twitter) that he was joining the Rassemblement National (RN) list for the European elections. He has joined forces with Jordan Bardella MEP (ID, French) and Marine Le Pen, president of the RN group in the French National Assembly, to “save Europe from immigration”. “For the EU, immigration is not a problem, it’s a project”, he said. He criticised the EU’s migration policy and the recently agreed ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’ (see EUROPE 13350/11). In 2022, a damning report by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) investigating maladministration within Frontex led to Mr Leggeri’s resignation (see EUROPE 12942/1; 13225/10). (AD)
