19/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On 15 February, the European Commission launched a new online citizen engagement platform that allows EU citizens to discuss and share their views on a range of topics, the first of which is energy efficiency and its implications for households, businesses and communities. This online forum aims to encourage dialogue on making more efficient energy choices in everyday life, reducing dependence on Russian fossil fuels, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reducing energy bills. The debates resulting from the platform will enable a panel of 150 citizens to formulate recommendations for European legislation and for initiatives such as the recommendation on the ‘Energy Efficiency First’ principle, which should be adopted later this year.
