19/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – The US tech giant Apple is set to face sanctions for allegedly breaching European legislation on access to its music streaming services. At least, that’s what The Financial Times, a daily newspaper specialising in economics and finance, has revealed, suggesting that the fine is likely to be in the region of €500 million. The European Commission, which has not commented on this information, opened an investigation in April 2021 to determine whether Apple had used its own streaming platform to promote its services. It was also looking into whether it had prevented iPhone users from being informed of the existence of cheaper alternatives to the service it offers for accessing music streaming subscriptions. According to the British newspaper, this fine could be announced early next month. (TM)
