26/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January, which coincides with the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stressed the importance of this commemoration in the wake of the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October. Referring to a rise in antisemitism, she said: “We all stand by the Jewish communities. There is no place for antisemitic hatred, especially here in Europe”.
