24/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – MEPs on the Committee on International Trade (INTA) voted in favour of final ratification of the two agreements between the European Union and Chile on Wednesday 24 January. The draft recommendations, one on the Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA) and the other on the Interim Trade Agreement (ITA), were approved by a majority of MEPs. Together, the two texts constitute an updated version of the Association Agreement currently in force between the European Union and Chile. However, the IFA will only have to be ratified at EU level, while the FFA will also have to be ratified by all Member States individually. Validation of the agreement as a whole will be submitted to Parliament for approval at its second plenary session in February, between the 26th and 29th. The EU Council will then have to give its final approval. (IS)
