On Thursday 11 January, the European Commission opened a consultation period to take stock of how the rules of the General Data Protection Regulation are being applied.
With this consultation, the Commission intends to tackle the different ways in which the rules have been applied by the Member States over the last six years and to update the assessment carried out in 2020.
In its report, the European Commission will have to take these contributions into account, as well as the EU Council’s position and conclusions, any contribution from the European Parliament and contributions from data protection authorities.
These are collected through the European Data Protection Board and through interviews conducted by the Fundamental Rights Agency with personal data protection authorities.
In accordance with the provisions of the GDPR, the Commission will continue to present a report evaluating the text every four years.
