19/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 19 December, Germany’s Markus Ferber—the EPP coordinator on the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs—called on European finance ministers to take the necessary decisions on the reform of the Stability and Growth Pact (see EUROPE 13314/10) this Wednesday. “EU finance ministers need to deliver tomorrow [on Wednesday]. There is no time to lose when it comes to the revision of the EU’s fiscal rules. Dragging on the negotiations will not make the text better, but only more complicated”, he warned. Having failed to reach an agreement during their Council meeting on 8 December (see EUROPE 13310/2), the ministers will attempt to finalise their negotiations during an extraordinary videoconference this Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, French minister Bruno Le Maire—hosting his German counterpart Christian Lindner—hoped for an agreement between the two countries during their working dinner. (CG)
