EU to allocate €186 million to promoting agri-food products in 2024

In 2024, the European Commission will allocate €185.9 million to fund activities to promote high-quality, sustainable European agri-food products both in the European Union and elsewhere in the world, it announced on Friday 17 November.

The amounts available for the campaigns selected in 2024 are divided between promotion on the EU internal market and promotion in third countries, to the tune of €81.3 million and €85.1 million respectively.

Outside the EU, countries and regions with high growth potential are seen as the main targets for promotion. These include China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and North America. The UK remains one of the main export markets for EU agri-food products, absorbing over 20% of exports from the twenty-seven Member States.

The European Commission funds up to 80% of the selected projects submitted by private operators, and also runs its own communication campaigns in third countries. It will specifically allocate €62 million to sustainably produced agri-food products, including €42 million for organic products.

In the 2024 work programme, over €18 million will be allocated to promoting fresh fruit and vegetables. Calls for proposals for the forthcoming 2024 campaigns will be open from 18 January to 14 May 2024.
