A new flight in the EU humanitarian air bridge, taking off from Denmark, was due to land in Egypt on Friday 27 October carrying 51 tonnes of medicines, medical products and UNICEF school supplies for the people of Gaza, the European Commission confirmed at midday.
This shipment is in addition to the 56 tonnes of humanitarian aid previously delivered to the Gaza Strip via Egypt (see EUROPE 13280/1, 13275/25).
Five other flights are scheduled to take place over the next 2 weeks as part of this humanitarian airlift coordinated by the EU, the transport costs of which are being financed by the EU, said the institution.
“To alleviate the suffering of the population of the Gaza Strip at this extremely difficult time, it is imperative to grant full, unrestricted and safe humanitarian access to Gaza”, reiterated the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič.
UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are among the partner organisations providing humanitarian cargo for rapid deployment to the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.
