Meeting in the European Parliament’s Industry Committee on Wednesday 25 October, MEPs adopted Christian Ehler’s report on the ‘Net Zero Industry Act’ (NZIA), the vote on which had been postponed for several weeks to finalise the latest discussions (see EUROPE 13245/2).
The political groups had agreed on a single text detailed below (see EUROPE 13277/10). There was a fairly large majority in favour of this compromise, and the final text was approved by 43 votes to 12, with 3 abstentions.
Parliament’s position must now be confirmed in plenary. In their text, MEPs maintain a single list of 16 technologies, including nuclear power and CO2 capture technologies, whereas the Commission and EU Council propose two lists, one ‘strategic’ and one ‘zero net’ (see EUROPE 13271/9).
The MEPs also amended the criteria for access to markets and the thresholds for the contribution of projects to the Union’s resilience and sustainability.
They have also added three pre-selection criteria for public procurement, covering the cybersecurity of the infrastructures contained in the project and their provenance (see EUROPE 13277/10).
The plenary vote is scheduled for the November session. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
