On Thursday 19 October, the European Commission launched a four-week public consultation on three draft delegated regulations (implementing acts) that it is preparing to supplement Directive 2020/2184 on water intended for human consumption, known as the ‘Drinking Water Directive’.
This directive establishes minimum hygiene requirements for materials that come into contact with drinking water - requirements that the Commission’s regulations should help to put in place.
The first regulation establishes the European positive lists of substances, compositions and constituents that may be used in the manufacture of materials or end products that come into contact with drinking water.
The second implementing act defines the testing and acceptance methods for the final materials used in these products. Only final materials that have been tested and accepted may be used in products that fall within the scope of the directive.
The third regulation submitted for comment defines the conformity assessment procedure applicable to these products and the rules for designating conformity assessment bodies. These consultations are open until 16 November.
