05/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 October, the rapporteur on electricity market reform, Nicolás González Casares (S&D, Spanish), defended his position on the scope of contracts for differences (CfDs), which are still being negotiated by the EU Council, on X (formerly Twitter). On the same day, the Spanish Presidency presented the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) with new proposals to break the deadlock in the negotiations, one of which consists of deleting Article 19b on the provision governing CfDs (see EUROPE 13262/5). Mr Casares is firmly opposed to this, nor does he accept that the proposals on the table for negotiation with the EU Council could “lead to a disruption of the internal market through retroactive subsidies”. Finally, he added that Parliament was ready to begin negotiations (see EUROPE 13250/19). Coreper will meet again on Wednesday 11 October, in the hope of finding a general approach at the Energy Council on 17 October. (PLD)
