20/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 September, the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) published a study highlighting the fact that only 43% of consumers feel in control of the content served to them online. A significant proportion of consumers also feel that the competent authorities do not protect them enough online, and almost 74% think that the platforms that host them should also be responsible for their content. The BEUC study concludes by recommending that the Commission make the online environment “fair by design”, create “a right to be free from online tracking”, regulate influence marketing and data collection more strictly, and ban “dark patterns”. Particular attention should also be paid to the protection of children. To see the study, go to https://aeur.eu/f/8o6 (TM)
