12/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 September, the European Parliament approved the appointment of Iliana Ivanova as European Commissioner. Meeting in Strasbourg for the plenary session, 522 MEPs voted in favour, 27 against and 51 abstained, confirming by a large majority the positive assessment of the parliamentary committees (see EUROPE 13243/1, 13243/2) and the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament’s political groups (see EUROPE 13244/29). “Thank you for your trust”, she replied on Twitter as she attended the vote in person. Once her appointment has been made official by the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Ms Ivanova will be responsible for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. “Commissioner-designate Iliana Ivanova is of course willing to begin her term as soon as possible, when appointed”, a Commission spokesman assured the audience.
