11/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Union “strongly” condemned, on Monday 11 September, last weekend’s “illegitimate elections” in Crimea, notably in Sevastopol and parts of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, organised by the pro-Russian authorities occupying these territories. “We strongly reject this further futile attempt by Russia to legitimise or normalize its illegal military control and attempted annexation of parts of Ukrainian territories”, said the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, in a statement. He vowed that the EU would never recognise the results of these sham elections and that the organisers of these votes would have to face the consequences of their actions. And Josep Borrell recalled the human rights violations committed by Russia in the occupied Ukrainian territories, such as the forced transfer of people, particularly minors. (MB)
