04/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – A European source announced, on Monday 4 September, that the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, was working closely with the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU to make progress on the revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). Mr Michel “will propose holding the first general leaders’ debate in October”, this source added after a meeting between the President of the European Council and the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU, saying that the Member States were cautious about the proposals presented by the European Commission. According to the same source, the Granada summit on 6 October should kick off the debate on Europe’s strategic agenda at leaders’ level, with the aim of concluding the discussions in 2024 and before the next European elections.
