Danish MEP Christel Schaldemose (S&D) updated the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on Monday 27 March on the initial work of the working group on the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 13145/28).
“We are trying to follow closely the work of the European Commission on this issue”, began Ms Schaldemose, who is the former rapporteur for the DSA and leads the working group.
Only one meeting has taken place so far, on 21 March. The next one should take place in July or September. “We would prefer September. In this way, the very large online platforms would be designated and known”, added Ms Schaldemose.
“The Commission has exclusive competence for the implementation of the DSA for very large platforms. European Commissioner Thierry Breton attended the meeting and told us how the work was progressing. We talked a lot about the exchanges between the Commission and the very large online platforms. The Commission is trying to recruit teams”, concluded the MEP, saying she was “confident about the future developments”. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
