24/03/23 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 23 March, Denmark became the 27th member state of the European Defence Agency (EDA). This is “another step forward for a stronger European defence”, the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, said on Twitter. As head of the EDA, Mr Borrell received official notification from the Acting Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen, that Denmark was joining the European Defence Agency. The decision, which follows the conclusion of a Danish parliamentary process, is the result of Denmark’s historic national referendum to lift its European defence opt-out in June 2022. Denmark’s participation in the EDA broadens membership of the agency to all EU Member States. (CG)
