13/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the European Union is set to adopt conclusions on the EU’s priorities for an “effective Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to ensure a sustainable future and food security for all”. In drafting this text (https://aeur.eu/f/5r2 ), delegations stressed the essential contribution that FAO must make to lead the transformation towards sustainable food systems and to address the intrinsically linked challenges related to the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and natural resource degradation. Delegations also recognized that FAO’s role as a leader in multilateral efforts to eradicate hunger and ensure food security was more vital than ever in the context of the unprecedented food crisis.
