01/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – On 28 February, ACER published its annual monitoring report on the wholesale electricity market. This first in a series of reports on the energy market in 2022 focuses on the main trends in the wholesale electricity market over the past year, marked by the surge in gas prices linked to the post-Covid-19 economic recovery and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as the European response to the crisis. The analysis also traces the evolution of the market over the last five years. For 2022, ACER points out, among other things, the reduction in demand in the last quarter of the year, negative electricity prices on the futures markets, which have reached pre-2019 levels, but also the increase in coal and gas consumption, despite renewable electricity production remaining constant.
