01/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, the European Parliament’s Committee on Gender Equality (FEMM) invited national MPs and experts on Wednesday 1 March to discuss the link between energy poverty and gender. “Single mothers or women running the single household pay the highest price because they earn less than men […] because of the gender pay gap”, highlighted FEMM chair Robert Biedroń (S&D, Polish). He believes that a gender perspective must be included in both policies and budgets and at both European and national level. It should be noted that this is also one of the priorities of the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council for the current six-month period (see EUROPE 13107/12). (HS)
