20/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 20 January, the Commission launched a public consultation on late or unfair payment practices and payment behaviour in commercial transactions, says a statement. The aim is to “understand how these late or unfair payments impact on the day-to-day management of businesses and their ability to invest in their green and digital transitions”. The consultation is taking place in parallel with another call for contributions on the understanding of the problem. The Commission is preparing a revision of the Late Payments Directive focusing on three key areas: - anchoring prompt payment behaviour in the law; - encouraging the use of modern digital payment tools to facilitate fast payments; - strengthening prevention and the enforcement of these rules in all industrial ecosystems.
