11/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) launched, on 20 December last year, a collection of liquefied natural gas (LNG) market data to produce and publish a daily assessment of LNG prices on 13 January 2023. The regulators are thus responding to a requirement of the Council of the European Union Regulation (2022/2576) to enhance solidarity through better coordination of gas purchases, reliable reference prices and cross-border gas trade. Adopted on 19 December last year in order to alleviate the energy crisis (see EUROPE 13087/1, 13071/2), this emergency Regulation mandates ACER to establish, by 31 March 2023 at the latest, a specific LNG benchmark in order to provide greater transparency to Member States and other market players on the prevailing price of LNG imports in Europe.
