Next Generation EU, European Commission receives payment requests from Italy and Luxembourg

The European Commission announced on Tuesday 3 January that it has received two payment requests from Italy and Luxembourg under the Next Generation EU Recovery Plan.

Italy’s third payment request of €19 billion in grants and loans covers 55 milestones and targets covering several reforms in the areas of competition, justice, education, undeclared work, water management, cybersecurity and renewable energy, among others.

For Luxembourg, this is the first payment requested. Totalling €25.98 million in grants, this application covers milestones and targets related to reforms in the areas of skills, climate, health and the fight against money laundering.

Part of this amount will also be used for investments in several other areas, including skills and digitalisation.

The European Commission will now assess these applications, before sending its preliminary assessment to the Economic and Financial Committee of the Council of the EU as to whether the required and objective criteria for these payments are met. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
