03/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday, 30 December, the European Commission opened two feedback periods in the area of rail interoperability. The first concerns the revision—via an implementing regulation—of the technical specifications for interoperability relating to ‘control-command’ and ‘signalling’ subsystems in order to provide a legal basis for the latest technical developments in the European Rail Traffic Management System. The second is meant to lead to the revision of seven technical specifications for rail interoperability, covering locomotives and passenger coaches, freight wagons, rail infrastructure and its register, rail energy management, rail traffic noise, and better accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility. Both open until 27 January, these consultations are in line with the EU’s strategy to further harmonise the European rail sector and boost its competitiveness.
