Extradition of EU citizen to third country can be justified where there is risk of impunity, says Court of Justice

The extradition of an EU citizen to a third country to serve a sentence may be justified in particular where there is a risk of impunity, the Member State is obliged to extradite the sentenced person under international law and the third country objects to the sentence being served in the territory of the Member State concerned.

This is what the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) ruled on Thursday 22 December (case C-237/21).
