10/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – According to a Twitter announcement that she made on Wednesday 9 November, French MEP Véronique Trillet-Lenoir of the Renew Europe group has been appointed European Parliament rapporteur on the directive covering the protection of workers from risks related to exposure to asbestos at work, as presented by the European Commission at the end of September (see EUROPE 13050/21). The Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament is responsible for this dossier. “I will be committed to turning our ambitions regarding the prevention of cancer into concrete measures, while also ensuring a just transition to a carbon neutral continent”, said the MEP. The European Commission has disappointed some MEPs with its proposed revision since it has retained an occupational exposure limit value of 0.01 fibres/cm3, which is still too high in the opinion of those who were in favour of a limit of 0.001 fibres/cm3.
